Sustainable Food Production in Latvia — Our Quiet but Meaningful Way

At WISEMEAL, we’ve always believed that how something is made matters just as much as what is made. Every energy bar and every functional dry mix we create here in Gulbene, Latvia, carries that belief — that food should be made with care, intention, and respect for the world around us.

Our Home in Gulbene

For the past year and a half, our production home has been a new, energy-efficient building that reflects everything we stand for — clean energy, mindful use of resources, and balance between innovation and nature. It’s a passive building, which means it’s designed to keep energy use at a minimum, and we’re proud to say it works beautifully in everyday life.

Each year, the Ministry of Economics in Latvia organizes a national competition for the most energy-efficient buildings. A few weeks ago, we received wonderful news — our WISEMEAL home was rated as the second most energy-efficient new building in Latvia in 2024! 

At the end of August, I had the chance to welcome the jury personally and share a few words about how this place came to life — completely unplanned, from the heart. It reminded me how much of ourselves we put into every part of this project — from the walls that hold the warmth, to the products we create inside them.

Powered by Nature

Our production runs mostly on solar energy, and we try to make every process as efficient as possible.
 • Heating works only during working hours and automatically lowers afterward.
 • Hot water runs only when needed.
 • All lighting is on motion sensors to reduce unnecessary use.
 • And yes, we even have a solar-powered car station — for now, it charges our little plug-in hybrid, but we see it as one small step in a much bigger direction.

We like quiet progress — the kind that doesn’t shout, but makes a real difference day after day.

All WISEMEAL products — from our functional powder mixes to energy bars — are made right here by our small team. We love what we do, and we care deeply about the details: the ingredients, the balance of nutrients, the texture, the taste, and the feeling of doing it right.
